ART EXTENSION 2016
Are you interested in Art extension for 2016?
This is for  students with a passion for art. We usually meet once a week for about an hour or so. Sometimes we have a weekend workshop if there is an exhibition coming up.
I am looking for people who enjoy working with a group for an exhibition but also wish to pursue their own ideas.
You are expected to work on ideas at home as well as at school.
If you think you would like to be considered for Art extension please fill in the form below.
Next term I will meet with all of you. To help me decide would you please bring :-

An explanation of why you would like to be in Art Extension and how you could contribute to the culture of the school.
sketch books
the artwork you are most proud of making, and be able to say why.
An album of your favourite artists, designers, photographers or architects. You don’t have to do all these categories but please say why you find the examples you have included interesting. (This is a follow on from class work.)
evidence of any art exhibitions etc. you went to in the holidays
if you are interested in photography please bring a selection    of your best photographs.
 do you have ideas for art works for our school environment? I would love to see your suggestions.

You could do any of the above on line, for example by using photobooth to video work or answers to the questions and sending to me at
and don’t forget to keep checking the Art Blog

Filling in an expression of interest does not guarantee a place next year as Numbers are limited.

As agreed at our meeting we will run extension on
Tuesday mornings 8:50-10:15
Thursday 4-5pm
This allows some flexibility
Everyone should choose one session
You may swop if organised in advance
You may do both sessions some weeks
It is important to have written permission to be at Art Extension and that I know which days you will be there , or not. If there was an emergency school would need to know who was in the building. You will need to sign in and out each time.
I will also need the best contact number for you all whilst in art extension.

2013
Fabulous work for our Cups of Kindness Exhibition at Trade Aid Merivale. Well done

On to the Cultural festival now.
Don't forget to keep thinking about the project , researching and sketching and bring your ideas next week. Even better come and show me one lunch time.

Theme: 'Ma te huruhuru, ka rere te manu ... Adorn the bird with feathers so it can fly
Concept: having faith in our children to do their best, letting them take an active part in contributing ideas to their programme etc. touches on the need for variety and creativity, giving them the skills and letting them fly!

Arists to look at
Robyn Kahukiwa
Michael Tuffery
John Bevan Ford
Wang Yiguang  http://artrotation.blogspot.co.nz/2010/08/wang-yi-guang.html
 Marc Chagall
Joyce Cairns ( Bird eye)
Andy Scott
Henry Moore

Start with rhythmic lines that convey, flight, upwards movement.
Flowing figure, keep range of cultures in images
Fracture background according to lines of force, remember starts from last year's picture.
ALSO LOOK AT PAINTINGS THAT USE TEXT AS IMAGE and include the theme text.

Background will be predominantly blue so keep main figures mostly warm.
I am imaging that the banners will look a little similar to the Library paintings

Sign language , we agreed to include sign language
Hopes and Dreams
adjectives to get you there, e.g. determination, education, etc plus feathers, wings etc.
We need to take photos of you signing.

Also look at Tiffany Singh project
Fly me up to where you are
I am hoping that she may come in July and we could incorporate some of her ideas into or work
http://tiffanysingh.com/
We have a workshop booked for Friday 5th August, not run by Tiffany but Lucy from the Christchurch Arts Festival. Our work will be on exhibition for the opening of the Christchurch Arts Festival. The workshop will be for the year 7 classes but I would like you to choose one lesson in the day to join them.

Mia says look at Mellisa Sharplen's work.

Fabulous photos by IZZY
Don't wait until the next session, the weeks will go by very fast, we need to start painting this week.
We are short of Maori , pacific images.
Check out Google competition on Competition page .
