WHO IS THE TEACHER NOW?

Last week some of the year 7 art block invited their teachers to their last printmaking lesson and turned the tables on them. The students became the teachers and the teachers the students.  Everyone had a wonderful time learning and teaching drypoint techniques. Well done all of you.

On Friday morning I had the opportunity to spend time in the art room under the tutorage of Cara, Olivia, Daniela and Joe R.  It was fantastic.  My tutors talked me through sketching, drypoint onto plastic and the print making process. They were very patient and full of praise for my efforts.  I look forward to my next invitation to spend time in the art room and be the student!

One of the really exciting things about art is that there are always surprises. Artists continue to explore the world from different perspectives and the results can be amazing.

Captain Gauldie's Visit

Antarctic Artist Captain Matt Gauldie, NZ Army

Due to bad weather in the Antarctic our visiting artist Capt. Matt Gauldie had to reschedule coming to Heaton. He eventually flew into Christchurch at 2:30am on Wednesday 22nd February, an auspicious day. Amazingly he still found the time and energy to come and talk to us and show us his latest painting from the Antarctic.

He also spent some time with some of the Art extension who were producing a series of images inspired by his ‘Earthquake Patrol’ painting which they saw at Canterbury Museum this term..

We are incredibly grateful to Matt , and the NZ Army, for his time and the advice and inspiration he gave students at Heaton.

Art Club

Inspirational, amazing and dedicated are just three words to describe Captain Matt Gauldie.

It was an amusing time for us because we managed to hear about some of  the experiences he had whilst being a Defence Force Artist .

Capatin Gauldie showed Art Club, Art Extension and the Rhodes Art Class his detailed artwork from the Antarctic. His watercolours were very realstic and full of great texture .

He was extremely impressed with the artwork that Extension Art is producing for an Earthquake Exhibition. He also gave them some helpful pointers.

Everyone was very impressed by Captain Gauldie and we wanted to thank him for inspiring us to paint.
